Day 1: Machame Gate – Machame Camp

Distance: 11 km | Time: 5–7 hours
Start at Machame Gate and trek through dense rainforest with rich vegetation and wildlife. The trail can be muddy but is very scenic. Arrive at Machame Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp

Distance: 5 km | Time: 4–6 hours
A steeper climb takes you out of the forest into moorland. The landscape opens up with great views of the mountain. Overnight at Shira Camp.

Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Distance: 10 km | Time: 6–8 hours
This is an important acclimatization day. You climb to Lava Tower (4,600m) before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adjust to altitude.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Distance: 5 km | Time: 4–5 hours
Climb the famous Barranco Wall, a fun and slightly challenging section. Continue through valleys and ridges to Karanga Camp.

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp – Summit – Mweka Camp

Distance: 17 km | Time: 10–14 hours
Ascend to Barafu Camp, rest, then begin your midnight summit attempt. Reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at sunrise, then descend to Mweka Camp for overnight.


Day 6: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate

Distance: 10 km | Time: 3–5 hours
Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your certificate and transfer back to your hotel.
