After arrival and registration at Momella Gate, your trek begins with a unique walking safari experience. Accompanied by a professional guide and armed ranger, you walk through open grasslands where giraffes, buffalo, zebras, and antelopes are often seen.

The trail gradually enters lush forest, home to colobus monkeys and colorful birdlife. The ascent is steady and scenic, passing streams and viewpoints before reaching Miriakamba Hut.

Enjoy dinner and relax as you prepare for the next stage of the climb.

Overnight: Miriakamba Hut

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut (3,570m)

Distance: 8 km | Time: 3–5 hours

After breakfast, continue your ascent through dense forest before transitioning into moorland. The vegetation becomes thinner as you gain altitude, revealing expansive views of the Meru crater and surrounding valleys.

The trail follows a ridge with stunning scenery, making this one of the most scenic sections of the trek.

Arrive at Saddle Hut around midday and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, take an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m), which helps your body adjust to the altitude and offers spectacular sunset views.

Return to the hut for dinner and early rest.

Overnight: Saddle Hut

Day 3: Summit (4,566m) – Descend to Miriakamba Hut

Distance: 14 km | Time: 8–10 hours

Your summit attempt begins around midnight. Using headlamps, you trek along a narrow ridge with steep sections and breathtaking drop-offs. This is the most challenging part of the climb, requiring determination and a steady pace.

As you reach Socialist Peak (4,566m), you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular sunrise. On clear days, you can see Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds, along with panoramic views of the crater below.

After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Miriakamba Hut for a well-deserved overnight stay.

Overnight: Miriakamba Hut
