Day 1: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp
Begin with a steep climb through thick rainforest, gaining altitude quickly. The narrow trail and towering trees create an adventurous start to the route.
Day 2: Umbwe Cave to Barranco Camp
The trail steepens as you climb exposed ridges with breathtaking valley views. Arrive at Barranco Camp and join the Southern Circuit.
Day 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Scale the impressive Barranco Wall and continue through rolling terrain to Karanga Camp. This shorter day supports acclimatization.
Day 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Ascend steadily to Barafu, your high-altitude base camp for the summit. Rest early for the night ascent.
Day 5: Barafu to Uhuru Peak, Descend to Mweka Camp
Start your summit attempt at midnight, reaching Uhuru Peak in time for sunrise. After celebrating, descend to Mweka Camp for your final night.
Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
A relaxed forest walk brings you to Mweka Gate for certificates and transport back to Arusha.
